The Mathematics Department of Quaid-i-Azam University is one of the first few departments of the university. The department was established in 1967. It consists of highly qualified faculty members, most of them are actively engaged in research in the fields of pure, applied and computational mathematics. The department has played a leading role in establishing traditions in mathematical research in Pakistan. Every year, the faculty members produce an impressive number of research papers in the international journals. Many faculty members have research collaborations with the leading researches of the foreign universities.
The Mathematics Department has also played a critical role in teaching of mathematics. To be more specific, the department has played a leading role in human resource development in Mathematics in the country. Since 1967, the department has produced 1188 M. Phil and 192 Ph.D. The graduates of this department are serving at national and international levels. Every year, the department is producing a good number of BS, M. Sc., M. Phil. and Ph.D. students.
Department of Mathematics is ranked as (200 – 300) subject wise Times World Ranking 2020, where QAU secured 470th position globally and Ranked No.1 in Pakistan. This all is due to hard work of our Teachers and Research Scholars. we are glad QAU especially Dept. of Mathematics has its share in view of sci publications and citations.
Facilities
The computational facilities in the department have been improved with addition of some PCs. Separate Computer Labs are established for BS, M. Sc., M. Phil. and Ph. D. students. The available internet facility is giving positive results towards speedy interactions globally.
The Computer Labs are open from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM during the working days.
The Department includes a departmental Library stocked with useful books on different fields of Mathematics. This mini library is stocked with almost 700 books of Mathematics for the use of Faculty Members/ Researchers and students. These books includes books on Differential Equation, Quantum Mechanics, Functional Analysis, Group Theory, Number Theory, Integral Equations, Fluid Mechanics, Algebra, Calculus, Topology, Numerical Analysis, Relativity, Astrophysics, Business Math and much more.
In collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC), the department has facility to download latest research material published in the international journals.
The Quaid-i-Azam University provides career counseling to interested students. It is located on the ground floor of the Central Library building.
The Quaid-i-Azam University campus has a gymnasium and several fields, grounds and courts, for recreational purposes. Every year an intra-university sports tournament in a wide variety of games, ranging from cricket to table tennis, are held.
The Quaid-i-Azam University boasts six hostels located within walking distance of the departments. Admissions to the hostels are made on a first come first served basis at the start of each semester.
