MSc. Program, Department of Mathematics, QAU

M.Sc. Mathematics (2 Years) has been started after few years of the establishment of this department. The department has produced 50 students of M.Sc. per year at average since its inception.

A total of 60 credit hours of course work is required for MSc in Mathematics. All courses carry 3 credit hours. As such, 13 Compulsory courses and at least 7 optional courses are required to be taken. The admissions are invited from all over Pakistan and admissions are made on the basis of regional quota (Regular) and self-finance. Eligible foreign students are admitted subject to a valid visa and NOC from HEC.

Duration

  • MSc Mathematics is a two-year degree program comprising of four regular semesters.

Eligibility Criterion

  • Age Limit: The maximum age limit for admission to Master’s program is 26 years. Any one beyond the age of 26 years shall not be admitted unless the relaxation is granted by the Vice-Chancellor under special circumstances on the recommendation of the Chairperson/ Director/School/ institute/ Centre concerned.
  • A person holding a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent from any other recognized university, with at least a second division or its equivalent grade, BSc with Math-A and Math-B Course (Applied Mathematics and pure Mathematics) or Mathematics (General) with Physics or Math-B Course.

Ineligibility Criterion

  • The following are not eligible for admission to the Masters programme:

    • 1Those who have failed a Master’s Programme in this University
    • 2Those who have ceased to be the student of this University.
    • 3Those who already possess a Master’s or an equivalent degree from this or any other University (self-finance).
    • 4Students who are already registered with any MSc Programme in this University or any other university.
    • 5NOC from the employer is required to be attached with admission form and routed through proper channel in case of in service applicants.

    • Formula:MOAC = 800 × (MOF / TM + MOB/TM) + HQ

    Where

    • MOM = Marks obtained in Metric or Equivalent
    • MOAC = Marks of Academic Career out of 1600
    • MOF = Marks obtained in FA/FSc
    • MOB = Marks obtained in BA/ BSc/ B.Com/ BA
    • TM = Total Marks in the relevant Examination
    • HQ = Hafiz Quran (20 marks)
